Speed Seeds Dating call out for collaborators:
Speed Seeds Dating is a speed dating event on a community garden / growing space. People meet on a speed dating rotation whilst completing gardening tasks, looking for companionship while learning about plants and growing techniques used in the garden spaces.
Open to everyone! This event is queer and het friendly. Open to any age, gender, sexual/romantic orientation, and no matter where you are in your gardening journey. There is an open call out for participants (romancers) to apply, with a behind the scenes match making process. Which helps us invite people that are more likely to romantically connect with each other. https://form.jotform.com/Emily_Tough/speed-seeds-dating-
There are ‘cherubs’ who act as stewards for these events. Their roles include offering refreshments, aiding the gardening tasks, checking people are comfortable and having a good time, as well as contributing to the general success and ease of the events.
Speed Seeds Dating works by matching with community gardens who would like to host these kind of high impact social events. We work alongside the community gardeners to curate tasks for romancers which aid the gardens usual activity, while introducing the theories, principles and plants used. Speed Seeds Dating is a good way to promote and celebrate community gardens, hopefully introducing more people into these spaces.
Two events have been hosted so far, one in Auchencairn link park spring 2024, and one in Dumfries The teaching garden Crichton campus Spring 2025.
I am currently applying for funding through Creative Scotland, and am looking for collaborators to join me in putting in the application.
I am hoping to find a costume designer, prop builder and a theatre / movement coach to help bring this event to life.
I would like to create a set of props to be used around the garden which aid to the atmosphere of heavenly abundance, as well as directional help. Think signage, archways, bunting. As well as small chalk boards with conversational ques to aid romancers getting to know one another. I have minimal storage and we want to be able to use everything frequently, so it is one of the challenges of the project. Costume design and movement coach focusing on the cherubs and how they can embody that role in a way that is authentic, gentle and fun for participants to be around.
I hope to work one on one with a prop builder. Help be a part of the design process for costume designer. I expect to work with the movement coach to learn practises and prompts which I can then take forward to facilitate the cherubs, or myself and the cherubs attend session facilitated by you.
I am open to hearing how this collaboration and project would work best for you.
I am looking for collaborators who have a commitment to using environmentally friendly materials. Who embrace of body positivity, centring queer, disabled and racially diverse identities. https://bodypositivealliance.org/blog/prominent-body-politic-movements-explained
I live and work in Dumfries, where I have a studio (for making) at The Crichton. We can arrange to work here, or elsewhere together.
If you are interested please email weagreeoneggs@outlook.com
It would be good for me to get an idea of your creative practise and why you are interested in this role.
We can then discuss budget and timescales, using industry rates of pay to apply to Creative Scotland.
